About

Postdependence Geographies in Central & Eastern Europe (PostCEE) is a research network connecting scholars and practitioners who work on Central and East European (CEE) geographies and are interested in postcolonial and decolonial perspectives in and on the region. In the network, we explore how global coloniality plays out in the different geographies of the CEE region by providing a platform to explore issues around difference, identity, borders, migration and border thinking.

Established in 2020 and funded by the Regional Studies Association, our network brings together academics working in and on CEE together with international and local policy makers and activists in various CEE countries. We are specifically interested in forging conversations with municipalities in various CEE regions as well as with charities, think-tanks and research institutions outside of academia as part of the aim to promote empirical insights into various CEE contexts.

We intend to edit a special issue with contributions from speakers and participants to our events. This aims to include several countries in the region of CEE as well as contributions that explore CEE migrant narratives of East-West in Western European contexts. The special issue will be officially launched and promoted at our dissemination event in 2023.
